Welcome to The Belfast Speakers' Circle
Belfast Speakers' Circle - everyone's welcome
The Belfast Speakers' Circle has been going strong as a meeting group for public speaking since 1945.
You'll find people from all sorts of different backgrounds in the group, students, teachers, retired civil servants and actors.
We all attend to have a bit of fun, to learn and to practise what has now become an essential art!
From story telling to extempore speeches we have a go at all kinds of public speaking. It's great fun and it can really help you to improve just by watching and learning from others in a supportive, environment. We believe that practice does make you perfect or at least, much better.
So why not join us - we're confident you'll like it!
We have all kinds of members, students, teachers, academics, pensioners . Our youngest ever speaker was just 13 and our oldest 94! We encourage all standards too. You might be terrified of speaking in front of a group. If that is the case we want you to come along. You may be a beginner and just finding your feet. You may be someone who is an improver but welcomes the opportunity to practise. Everyone is welcome.
“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.” (Jerry Seinfeld)
William Magee, President 2023-2024
Hello Blog readers, since relocating our events to the Clayton Hotel in the centre of the city, the Belfast Speakers’ Circle has made good progress in attracting new participants and delivering a great membership experience.
It is my pleasure to welcome you as a new member to one of Belfast's oldest cultural groups (established 1945) and I assure you of my full support in helping you develop your potential as a speaker.
My thanks to the Circle committee for those early morning starts over the summer - meeting to create a program that will entertain and benefit everyone, from the beginner to the more experienced speaker.
Our goal remains to be a Circle that is open to everyone, to develop and maintain a high quality of public speaking in the city of Belfast.
Look forward to meeting you,
William Magee, President, 2023-2024
